★ ★ ★ ★ ★Effortless de-nailing
My first impressions of the 25'' Tove wrecking bar were very good. The build quality is excellent (forging and finish), to be honest it's what I've come to expect from Swedish forges such as Gransfors Bruk as I now have 3 of their axes! I understand they're actually made by a sister company (Svedbro Smide is stamped on the claw end). These wrecking bars certainly aren't cheap but you get what you pay for and personally I'd rather pay more for high quality hand tools, look after them, get much pleasure from using them and they'll hopefully last a lifetime.
With the price of logs and other fuels reaching ridiculous heights I've started gathering my own wood, which is great but has left me with a lack of storage space to season the logs. Again with the prices of timber being sky high I decided to build my own storage shelters from pallet wood and creosote them. I started to dismantle pallets with a cheap wrecking bar only to splinter and break nearly all the planks! That's when I ordered the 25'' Tove wrecking bar. I have now dismantled quite a few pallets with ease and with very few breakages. the claw end of the bar is 2'' wide and ground to a sharp edge allowing the effort to be spread and reducing damage. The bar can also be used for relatively effortless de-nailing. I've been using a wooden mallet to beat the working end of the bar between the timber to be separated as I haven't the heart to use a lump hammer on such a lovely tool but that's just me and the mallet works fine!!
I'm certain that this bar would be perfect for lifting floorboards, removing skirting boards or any other dismantling tasks where minimal damage is important. The bars come in various sizes, I settled on the 25'' to give decent leverage but also to fit in a rucksack.
On the whole it's another great piece of hand forged kit from Sweden.
