Tormek grindstones are well known for grinding efficiency and long stone life - if you take good care of your stone, you can expect to use it for many years to come.
Tormek currently offer three different types of grindstones, all optimized with the special qualities required for different applications.
The Tormek T-8 is supplied with the Tormek Original Grindstone. These give you efficient steel removal and smooth surface finish from the same stone because the surface can be changed from 220 Grit to the equivalent of 1000 Grit which leaves a finer surface and sharper edge.
However, if you want an even finer surface, we recommend the Tormek Japanese Waterstone which comes with a 4000 Grit and delivers a mirror finish with a razor sharp edge.
The Tormek Japanese Waterstone 4000 grit delivers a mirror finish with hardly any visible scratch marks. Since the stone is made to create the finest surface, it has a limited steel removal capacity and cannot be used for shaping a tool.
This waterstone excels at sharpening hand tools like carving tools, knives, scissors, plane irons and wood chisels where a minimum of steel removal is needed and a superior surface finish is required.
Its unique composition gives the stone an extremely long life. Since the surface left by the Japanese Waterstone is so fine, we do not recommend honing afterwards on the leather honing wheel.
You should clean the stone surface of steel particles every minute or so with the fine side of the Stone Grader SP-650. Do not use the coarse side of the Stone Grader on the Japanese Waterstone.
Fits Tormek T-8, Tormek T-7 and previous Tormek models with a 250 mm stone diameter.
