I WAS NERVOUS ABOUT ORDERING OUT OF THE USA, NEVER DID IT BEFORE AND ALL WENT PERFECTLY.
COMING, WEEK COMMENCING 20 MAY
NOW INCLUDES A LEATHER SHEATH
Hand-made medium-large drawknife which offers excellent control and feel for a variety of work.
The cutting edge is straight but the blade is gently curved.
The handles are cranked slightly down therefore can be used bevel up or bevel down.
For typical green wood work tasks such as rounding billets use it bevel down, the slight curve along the length of the blade helps to round billets quicker.
To flatten and smooth the underside of bowls, use it bevel up .
Also well suited to peeling bark from small/medium sized logs.
The 4mm thick and 31mm (1 1/4") deep blade is made from high carbon Swedish toolsteel, weighs 440 grams and feels very comfortable in the hand, not at all heavy.
With a cutting edge of 270mm (10 1/2") long this is the biggest general duty drawknife we stock, total length is 430mm (17").
The traditionally shaped handles of elm from southern Sweden are 115mm (4 1/2") long. Untypically smooth from Svante Djarv.
Sharpen with either diamond flat stones or canoes stones. Hone the inside of the bevel with our Round Honing Leather
One of these just had to go into our own toolbasket and is a favourite on our courses.
S. Djarv Hantverk AB is a family business specializing in making hand forged tools in small numbers for wood working. They make approximately 4000 tools per year. Svante forges the blades and Elsa makes and fits the handles (as well as a million other jobs!)
Delivered sharpened, ready to use but would benefit from a final hone.
Sheath made from a thick, black split leather, fastened with two poppers.
If you appreciate beautiful, durable, quality tools that work extremely well and feel great in the hand this is the one to go for.
