Just let you know the axe and the wedge arrived safely thanks - an excellent service.
Sometimes called a hurdlers trimming hook, this hook could be used to harvest coppice material but it has one feature that gives it a specialist role.
The cutting edge is dog-legged, designed to trim hurdle weavers flush on a woven hazel or willow panel.
Like all Morris billhooks the cutting bevels are long without shoulders and ground to about 20 degrees. The tang runs the full length of the handle.
The caulked oval handle, made of varnished ash, is 140mm (5 1/2") long, the blade is approx 230mm (8") long. Total length approx 370mm (13 1/2").
Tool making has been an industry at the Morris Dunsford works for more than 100 years and in our opinion Morris Billhooks are far better than anything else on the market, despite the need for grinding, sharpening and honing to remove manufacturing flats on the edge.
