Rare short handled adze hand made by Swedish wood working tool makers Hans Karlsson Klensmide AB.
Complete with thick waxy WOODSMITH leather sheath.
Used mainly for the hollowing of bowls, troughs and chair bottoms.
The cutting edge on this adze has a flat area in the middle, working well at the bottom of larger bowls.
An adze of undoubted quality, where great attention has been paid to how tools like this work, beautifully detailed and finished.
Made with an understanding of what wood craftsmen want and need from a tool. Subtle hammer marks on the head, confirm this as a hand-made tool.
Hand forged from Swedish Uddeholm steel, Arne SS1672 which is formulated for toughness and holding a long-lasting sharp edge. Hardened to 56HRC.
Weights 700 grams, head length approx 165mm (6 1/2") long.
The cutting edge from corner to corner is approx 60mm (2 3/8")
Hans Karlsson normally use straight-grained ash for thier adze handles which comes from woodland just outside Motala, their home town. However handles may also come in beautifully warm lightly oiled Swedish elm.
The handle is approx 220mm (8 3/4") long.
WOODSMITH branded, black leather sheath with leather thonging leather ties, made in-house.
