★ ★ ★ ★ ★Professional tool.
When you handle a tool like Hans Karlsson’s 50mm adze for the first time, you’ll wonder just what’s gone into the making of it, apart from the steel. When you use it for the first time, you’ll quickly realise this is a professional working tool that somebody has put serious thought into. Adzing is very different to working with an axe; short handle (8.75”), weight (600g) close to the hand - different technique, different effort, so you need a quality tool to ensure efficiency (watch the Jogge Sundqvist DVD). The 50mm HK adze is superb to use and removes wood blisteringly fast, the 50mm version is a good compromise, I’ve used it for medium and large bowls and, with care, it can be used on much smaller ones. Ensure your blank is very secure and you’ll make accurate, fast, headway with this adze. Technique and grip are important but do learn how to sharpen and hone it properly, keep it sharp and don’t store it without the sheath! You’ll then have a professional tool which you’ll enjoy using more and more.
Quality costs, so you won’t find anything like this in Be&Queue.
