The essential course for aspiring green woodworkers where you will make your own shavehorse to take home

Saturday 29 - Sunday 30 September 2018

  • 2 days
  • Cost £220
  • Venue:  Northumberland Centre for Greenwood Craft at Kirkley Hall Farm.

You will be taught the bodging skills of cleaving, trimming, shaving and turning using a few simple hand tools such as axes, drawknives, gouges and chisels, learning to use them correctly and safely.

Traditional devices such as cleaving breaks, shavehorses and pole lathes will be used throughout.

The main focus of these two days will be the making of a durable English rustic style shavehorse which is yours to take away at the end of the course.

  • Green Woodworking - An Introduction

I booked this course a long time in advance but it was worth the wait. A full-on two days learning skills and making a shave horse to bring away. Maurice delivers the course very well and has a great deal of knowledge to share. Looking forward to the next course!

It is quite an intensive course, pleased to hear you enjoyed it!

  • Green Woodworking-an Introduction ...... s so enjoyable!

I had always wanted to give this a go after seeing a pole lathe many years ago at the Chopwell Woods Festival. Very satisfying to learn how to work with green wood and all done under my own steam. I truly feel like I have been at a 'green gym' all weekend.

I will no doubt be back for another course as it was so enjoyable. Thanks Maurice.
