Smaller crook knife, good to get you started with carving spoons and cups etc.
Available as a RIGHT or LEFT handed knife.
SELECT FROM THE 'HANDED' DROP-DOWN BOX BELOW.
This knife has a versatile blade shape so that you can use the nose for hollowing deeply and the straighter section near the handle for flatter surfaces.
When choosing crook knives, having a pair of both left and right handed is very useful when carving spoons and smaller bowls. It allows you to cut from both sides and cut with the grain, leaving a smoother surface. If you are right handed, the right handed crook knife is used to make cuts towards yourself and the left handed one has the cutting edge on the opposite side and so can be used with a pushing cut (vice versa if you are left handed).
If you are purchasing your first crook knife and don't want to commit to both a RIGHT and LEFT version, then we would suggest that you buy a crook knife that cuts towards you e.g. if you are right handed choose a right handed crook knife.

01 tool steel takes and holds a great edge but will require cleaning and drying before being put away if rust is to be avoided, including after carving green wood.
