Larger crook knife, good to get you started with carving spoons and cups etc.
Available as a right or left handed knife.
SELECT FROM THE 'HANDED' DROP-DOWN BOX BELOW.
The more gentle curve of this blade makes it easier to leave behind fewer tool marks in the bowl of a spoon.
When choosing crook knives, having a pair of both left and right handed is very useful when carving spoons and smaller bowls. It allows you to cut from both sides and cut with the grain, leaving a smoother surface. If you are right handed, the right handed crook knife is used to make cuts towards yourself and the left handed one has the cutting edge on the opposite side and so can be used with a pushing cut (vice versa if you are left handed).
If you are purchasing your first crook knife we would suggest that you buy a crook knife that cuts towards you e.g. if you are right handed choose a right handed crook knife.
Total length approx 6 3/4" (170mm). The blade has a single external bevel ground to about 25 degrees.
Made from 01 tool steel with a partial tang, heat treated and tempered to 57 - 59 Rockwell.
01 tool steel takes and holds a great edge but will require cleaning and drying before being put away, including after carving green wood.
The faceted elm handle has been given a light treatment of boiled linseed oil.
Comes with a simple strip of leather to protect the edge when not in use. As an alternative, have a look at our Spoon Knife Blade Sheath which is easier to remove and fit offering better edge protection
