what a thing of beauty
Hand-made crook knife with a shallow curved blade with a single external bevel for the removal of material in the bowl of a spoon.
This knife's shallow curve blade profile is good to use after the basic shape of a spoons's bowl has been created with a standard crook knife to reduce visible tool marks in the final stages of larger and/or shallower spoons.
Available either as right or left handed.
SELECT FROM THE 'HAND' DROP-DOWN BOX BELOW
When choosing crook knives, having a pair of both left and right handed is very useful when carving spoons and bowls. It allows you to cut from both sides and cut with the grain, leaving a smoother surface. If you are right handed, the right handed crook knife is used to make cuts towards yourself and the left handed one has the cutting edge on the opposite side and so can be used with a pushing cut (vice versa if you are left handed).
If you are purchasing your first crook knife we would suggest that you buy a crook knife that cuts towards you e.g. if you are right handed choose a right handed crook knife.
The blade is made from 01 tool steel with a high carbon content, tempered to 57 - 59 Rockwell, so will take and hold a great edge, however it must always be clean and dry after use to prevent rusting.
Blade length 50mm (2") long, 9mm deep and 2mm thick. The flat bevel is ground to approx 25 degrees.
Comes sharp and ready to use.
The lightly oiled English elm handle is 115mm (4 1/2") long.
Comes with a simple strip of leather to protect the edge when not in use.
