Pole Lathe - Tools and Accessories
Turning tools for the pole lathe are different to those used on a power lathe. Invariably they have shorter handles because there is not so much of a control issue as there is with the high speed of a power lathe. The use of a broad 2" chisel for smoothing is pretty unique.
Most of the turning tools listed here come from Ashley Iles who have a well deserved reputation as a small UK manufacturer of high quality, hand made, well finished tools, sold throughout the world. All of their tools are fully warrented. Any tool found faulty in materials or edge keeping qualities will be replaced unconditionally. Their tools are perfectly ground but may need a final hone before use.
Handles, made mainly from beech, come from a sustainable source.
We will make 'turn-key' pole lathes to order or we can supply the materials for you to make your own. See 'DEVICES' page for more information.
At our workshop in the beautiful well wooded grounds of Beamish Museum, Co.Durham we offer a range of traditional woodcraft courses, click EXPERIENCE for details. These including learning to build your own pole lathe and how to use it under expert guidance.
